The Rugged Radios 5 Watt Handheld Radio (RH-5R)  has quickly become our most popular handheld radio. Perhaps its most important feature is the dual band (VHF/UHF) functionality, giving you the ability to communicate with both frequency bands, something most radios are incapable of. The RH-5R features 128 programmable channels, over 40 of which are already pre-programmed with popular race frequencies. These include Weatherman, BFG Relay, Baja Pits, Best in the Desert, KOH, SCORE, etc. The RH-5R is face programmable, though if you're not feeling up to it you can always request to have us program any additional channels you want, free of charge. The average user can expect about 8-10 hours before requiring a recharge. If battery longevity is a concern, we offer a battery eliminator which plugs straight into a cigarette lighter receptacle.

With 5 Watts of power, the RH-5R has a range of about 2.5 miles. This can vary depending on your line of sight and density of surrounding terrain. To increase the range of the RH-5R, many will upgrade to a larger “Ducky” antenna. This XL “Ducky” antenna screws on easily, and can increase the range of the radio by 15-20%.
